CPU :
Nous avons calé le CPU ARM Cortex A8 à un maximum de 800MHz par défaut, dans le but d’optimisation de la durée de vie de la batterie. Tous les produits d’Archos utilisent de telles réductions de fréquence (par exemple lors de la lecture de MP3, la fréquence du CPU tombe à 300MHz). La fréquence de 1 GHz est actuellement utilisée pour un certain nombre de tâches comme la navigation internet.
Avec l’application de benchmark Quadrant, nous atteignons approximativement la même performance sous le firmware Eclair 1.0.84 et sous le firmware Froyo 2.0.54.
Notez cependant qu’il existe un bug avec les résultats affichés par cette application pour le firmware actuel, pour lequel l’évaluation de la vitesse du CPU est erronée. Ce problème a été corrigé en interne et nous atteignons désormais un sore de plus de 1300 points avec l’Archos 43IT.
Wi-Fi :
Nous avons identifié deux problèmes avec le Wi-Fi :
Il est impossible de se connecter à des points d’accès en utilisant un canal supérieur à 11. Contournement possible : configurez les points d’accès avec des canaux inférieurs. Ce problème est déjà corrigé en interne et nous le publierons dans la prochaine mise à jour du firmware, très proche.
Sur certains produits, le Wi-Fi plante parfois avec l’encryptage WPA2/AES. Contournement : utilisez un mode d’encryptage différent sur le point d’accès si possible. Nous travaillons avec notre fournisseur de chipset pour identifier une solution.
Flash :
Nous avons une configuration spécifique pour le plugin flash, qui active l’accélération matérielle pour optimiser le décodage vidéo et qui ne peut être rendu public tant que la certification d’Adobe n’est pas finalisée. Tous les benchmarks actuellement réalisés avec d’autres plugin flash aboutiront à de pauvres performances qui ne reflèteront pas l’aptitude de notre plateforme.

CPU:
We have set the ARM cortex A8 CPU to a maximum of 800MHz by default in order to optimize the battery life. All Archos products are using frequency scaling as a means to prolong battery life (e.g. when listening to MP3, CPU speed goes down to 300MHz). 1GHz is currently used for certain tasks like Internet browsing.
We are achieving approximately the same performance between eclair 1.0.84 and froyo 2.0.54 firmwares using Quadrant benchmarking software.
Note that there is an issue with Quadrant benchmarking software on our current firmware resulting in a false result regarding CPU speed evaluation. It has been fixed internally and we reach now a score of more than 1300 for the Archos43it.
Wi-Fi:
We have identified 2 issues with Wi-Fi:
i) Problem: it is impossible to connect on access points using channels above 11. Workaround: configure the access point to use another channel. Problem already solved internally and will be published in a firmware update very soon.
ii) Problem: on some devices wifi gets stuck sometimes with WPA2/AES encryption. Workaround: use a different encryption mode on the access point if possible. We are working with our chipset provider to find a solution.
Flash:
We have a specific flash plugin configuration that enables hardware acceleration for optimized video decoding that cannot be made public until Adobe certification is completed. All benchmarks currently conducted with other flash plugins will result in poor performance that will not reflect our platform capability.

It’s no really!
With old firmware tablet was smoothly and battery life was great!
Now terminal it’s choppy and with lot of bug!
For me this version is a beta version….

I’ve bought a 1gh tablet not a 800mh tablet!
Ils ne parlent pas des problèmes des sous-titres qui ne s’affichent plus, ou des vidéos qui maintenant rame un peu. Le cpu ne passe plus à 1000Mhz lors de la lecture vidéo également.
What is about the UPNP und SMB Bug?
Why not set the CPU speed back to 1GHz as it’s supposed to be according to the specs. and give the user an option of increased battery life.
* High performance 1GHz max
* Longer battery life. 800 MHz max
And give us a way to hide the softbuttons completely since quite a few apps seem to have a problem with them.

Pour la navigation sur le net si ça se trouve l’os ne passe à 1Ghz que pour le navigateur natif ?
Android 2.1 jusqu’au prochain patch donc, ça ne fait plus de doute
Quadrant modifié en interne, mais pas de mise à jour proposée par AppsLib… Le décodage du H264 sut A43it est long, long si long qu’il faut le planté… passé une fois, 865 pts et ce sans le Market.
Les vidéos stockées sur mSDHC ne sont pas identifiées ni par le raccourci ni par le widget. Elles sont visibles et jouables en cliquant sur l’image « carte SD ».

It doesn’t make sense to underclock the CPU; if they are using on-demand settings to determine how much CPU is needed most of the time you won’t be using 1000mhz, but you have it there when you do need it. This does bother me quite a bit as I paid for a 1Ghz processor.
I for one will be using temporary root and I’ll be installing SetCPU to bring it back up to 1000.
Always prefer performance that battery life. They need o create a user setting for use a smart processor or NOT.
The Froyo works very slow, Archos try to expel the customers.
Wow! After this semi-bricking « upgrade » I can not play any more 3D/HD games… with or with out root/setCPU… refund me now.
All my favorite paid apps and games are crashing and locking up between 30 seconds to 10 minutes. I was able to play NOVA, Pineball Ride, NFS, Asphalt5 and other 3D games for HOURS on 2.1
And overclocking dosn’t help on my A32IT and 101. Guess my psx4droid, gameboid and other emu’s are next to FC every random minute of gameplay, same with the Wii Contoller app (Bluetooth).
Unreal…My Brick (FROYO) Archos43 is not powerful to play Angry Birds and Hyper Jump anymore. *sighs*
Why the hell we cannot downgrade this POS firmware and rollback to Eclair? Thanks for punishing your loyal customers by bricking previous firmware that once worked great and not allowing us to do a simple rollback in case we dislike your new public rushed beta. I’m now stuck with a brick $250 POS thats only good for playing music, viewing videos(sans HD), photos and reading ebooks. But l’m willing to bet with all that multi-tasking it would crash in a second.
This is truly a crap update. I have been reccomending my friends an Archos based on the promising 2.1 tablet thinking that an Froyo update would be amazing. Now noticing I have to buy codecs for movies I could watch before updating, and having great lag in games that I’ve bought and can no longer play.
All recommendations are off and the tablet will go into a drawer until there is root access or you release a proper update.
Oh and I forgot. What kind of encryption do you think I should use that is safe for WiFi? WEP? Pah, useless.
